| 5/12/2010 10:15:56 PM | pmelcon | Whiskeytown Sailing Club is having their annual two-day regatta in Redding (Lake Whiskeytown) on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Their facility is excellent and sailing on shifting lake winds can be a challenge. Look for a link on the events page. |
| 5/12/2010 1:01:48 AM | paul | Chico Yacht Club has their floating campground on Lake Oroville this weekend. Wade and the Raven hope to be on the lake one day--there should be room for a few more boats as the level is at 925 feet. Winds are problematic at this point but the air temp will be in the 80s. I hope to be there on Saturday. |
| 4/12/2010 6:54:54 PM | Paul | The next regatta is the MHRA Chico Classic on May 1-2. Although the regatta is for multihulls, there is lots of room on the lake and all sailors are welcome. |
| 4/12/2010 6:45:11 PM | Paul | The ShoutBox is back online and now contains abit of security checking before you are entitiled to write a shout. Let's see if it survives the web crawlers and is userful |
| 2/2/2010 1:11:19 AM | paul | BSC site is under attack by advertisers. I am turning it off until I find a solution. Sorry. |
| 1/30/2010 2:24:11 PM | paul | Lake Oroville is at 690--almost up to the spillway ramp. We need to pick a sail date for February. |
| 1/25/2010 12:34:22 PM | Jason | The lake is rising, Won't be long now and we will be back on Lake Oroville! |
| 1/5/2010 8:03:43 AM | Jason | So when are we going to meet up and sail? This Saturday? Next Saturday? I hear the Afterbay is full and calling me! |
| 1/4/2010 12:00:21 PM | Jason | Wow, The new page looks great! We sailed in the bay on Fri,Sat,Sun. It was great. When should we have our first race/sail? I am ready to get the Nacra out on the water, it has been a while. Longer than I would like to admit. |
| 1/2/2010 2:54:04 AM | to Paul | The page is looking good- happy New Year 2010.
Still suggesting a Yahoo group page. That way when someone posts
it goes right into your own email. They are really easy to use. |
| 1/1/2010 8:50:05 AM | paul | Happy New Year! Am making some web changes tonight and hope to get an event scheduled soon. |
| 12/20/2009 6:53:57 PM | john | Darn, I wish I knew you were an expert on Cat22's. If I had somewhere to store it, I would leave it down here, fix it up, and sail it this summer. I will be towing it up to Seattle tomorrow. Maybe I will bring it back down to cali next year. |
| 12/18/2009 9:55:55 AM | Jason | Although you don't go as fast, monohull sailing can be every bit as fun and exciting as multihull sailing. From what I understand the boat that you got is in really good condition though it may need to be spruced up a bit. Are you going to be staying on the boat up in Seattle? |
| 12/18/2009 9:49:09 AM | Jason | That's awesome! Other than I have been trying to buy that boat from them for a few years now and they keep saying that they will let me know if they decide to sell it. I am stoked that you got another boat. You should definitely head out there. We should be there around 11:00 or so. If you need a hand with anything we should be able to help, I have rigged and launched a Catalina 22 about a hundred times. You will do just fine. |
| 12/18/2009 1:13:55 AM | John | I might try to come out saturday. I just bought a Catalina 22, from the Forebay Aquatics Center. I am planning on taking up to Seattle next week, but kinda want to take it out this weekend. I've never launched or sailed a boat this big. |
| 12/15/2009 10:00:33 PM | Jason | Weather permitting we will be sailing the F 27 at Black Butte lake this Saturday. It would be nice to have some company out there. Anyone want to get out and see how thier boat stacks up against a big heavy old trimaran? |
| 12/13/2009 7:05:24 PM | Jason | Sure I will represent MHRA afterall I am the Commodore although I am not sure exactly what you are talking about. Marina Bay Yacht Harbor is in Richmond just a stones throw from the Richmond Yacht club. If you know the area it is right behind Brooks island. Christina Samantha and I spent the weekend on the boat. A little rainy but a great time none the less. Didn't do much sailing but we did get to go out and motor around for a while. Samantha loves to be at the helm. "She's skipper material" and if you don't know what movie that is from your not really a sailor. :) |
| 12/11/2009 3:28:29 PM | paul | Jason. Where is Marina Bay? Alameda Channel. Party was great fun and Wade and Bettie Ann are wonderful hosts. I am going to get an interclub meeting together for January. Are you interested in representing MHRA? |
| 12/7/2009 7:13:38 PM | Karen | Jason,
Saw the pictures on the other site. Looks fun! |
| 12/6/2009 10:05:13 PM | Jason | Sorry to have missed the party, we were in the bay area moving the new boat to it's new home at Marina bay. The trip was good but the wind was light so we had to use the iron spinnaker almost all the way. looks like the party was a hit! |
| 12/6/2009 11:39:34 AM | Karen | Great party - fun to see everyone- sorry if you missed it. It was fun to catch up with old and new members.Incredible food, great atmosphere, loved all the old photos.
|
| 12/5/2009 10:33:14 AM | Karen | Yes, lots of cruises in bay, some are down there for the lighted boat parade this weekend.
Shoot me a call and I'll share more. I also know others with boats at Marina Bay from
Chico. |
| 12/3/2009 5:14:16 PM | Jason | Looks like we are moving the Irwin 35 to it's new home at Marina Bay Yacht Harbor this weekend. Love that boat. Not too thrilled to have to navigate the Napa River again though. It is a little dicey in some spots. Hey Karen does the Chico Yacht club have any cruises with and clubs in the bay? If so I might be interested in Joining up! We also need a good name for the Irwin any ideas? |
| 11/29/2009 11:15:11 AM | Karen | Thanks Paul for planning the event and for all your efforts these past several
years as commodore. Wade and Bettie Anne- thanks for hosting the Christmas
event! |
| 11/28/2009 9:16:16 AM | paul | Ugly forecast this morning--already windy and 18 gusting 23 by 11:00. Sailing at the afterbay is cancelled. |
| 11/24/2009 4:19:38 PM | Karen | Sorry I can't step up to do the Christmas Dinner- already do a Christmas
Eve thing and with my niece graduating and Brooke living here temporarily,
too much on my plate. What a bout mtg. at an inexpensive local restaurant-
IE: Casa Ramos- they have a big room I believe. It would be easy for all. |
| 11/16/2009 10:11:25 PM | Jason | WooHoo another event! Everyone needs to show up to this one and race for the coveted Turkey head perpetual trophy! We will be there :) |
| 11/3/2009 9:03:48 AM | Jason | We raced the F27 Trimaran in the Great Pumpkin last weekend in the SF Bay. There was a little over 200 boats registered in the pursuit race and we pased around 100 people to finish about 60th. It was a little stressfull being surounded by that many boats but a lot of fun! |
| 10/22/2009 12:11:35 AM | jason | Well I took the islander 27 out to Oroville last weekend for a great sail. But this weekend we are racing the F27 in a pursuit race hosted by the Richmond Yacht Club. You should come down and race the Prindle. By the way I have stopped by your office three times in the past month or so, if it is indeed your office? We will be sending the invites out for the MHRA holiday party soon, You all have to come! |
| 10/21/2009 2:02:50 PM | pmelcon | anyone sailing this weekend? looks like moderate winds. paul |
| 10/21/2009 10:41:26 AM | alexg928 | Very nice site! |
| 10/18/2009 11:19:16 AM | Ranger Paul | Jason - 1772 Heynen, Paradise, 95969. Damage to my boat for my totally STUPID blunder was pretty bad but could have been far worse. I should have it back up and sailing in a month or so. My real name is Paul Ritchie BTW. I think teaching the Boy Scouts to sail and get their merit badge is a really good thing and Gisela and I would be more than willing to do this far more often. Perhaps the club should persue this with other troops?
|
| 10/16/2009 1:14:18 PM | Jason | For all the local people just select in store pick up and I will drop it off to you myself and save you the shipping. That's an even better deal... |
| 10/16/2009 1:12:56 PM | Jason | That reminds me we have added a bunch of cool new products to the webite. Everyone needs to take a look. We have picked up a couple sail manufacurers and some starting watches and waterproof video cameras to catch all the action out on the water. Please let me know if you need any sailboat stuff and I will get it for you at a good price. www.trapout.com Thanks, Jason |
| 10/16/2009 1:09:37 PM | Jason | Hey Paul, Thanks for coming out and taking some Boyscouts for a sail. They had a great time. I heard that there was a mishap up in the parking lot. I hope that the damadge isn't too bad although from what I heard it didn't sound to good. Thanks again! I think that the Boyscouts would like to send you some sort of a thank you. If you send me your address I will pass it along. jason@trapout.com |
| 10/9/2009 7:10:29 PM | Ranger Paul | Jason - I killed your phone message before I got to you phone number/email. Can you please call me again. |
| 10/9/2009 7:09:38 PM | Ranger Paul | Jason - We can't make 8:00. We will be there about 9:00. |
| 10/9/2009 5:36:01 PM | Ranger Paul | Jason - We can't make 8:00. We will be there about 9:00. |
| 10/9/2009 4:49:03 PM | Jason | HI everyone, We will be meeting at the Buckhorn launch ramp at Black Butte Lake tomorrow morning at 8:00 to rig the boats. Please feel free to show up and help teach a few youngsters how to sail. We need as many boats as we can get!!! Thanks, Jason |
| 10/8/2009 12:54:38 PM | Ranger Paul | Jason - nospampaul@comcast.net 872-2258 |
| 10/8/2009 12:54:00 PM | Ranger Paul | Jason - I called about the lake level at Black Butte and she said there was plenty of water for sailing and all ramps are open. Wind forecast on Weather Underground looks dismal - like 2 mph. Weather.com says 4-8 mph. Aviation forecast for Oroville says 4-8.. Are we still on even if there probably be little wind? What launch ramp? |
| 10/1/2009 11:15:43 PM | jason | I went to the meeting and they don't require any sort of a saftey boat so we should be fine. |
| 10/1/2009 8:10:35 PM | Ranger Paul | Jason - Stinkpot Mike is at Fleet Week next week so he cannot do a safety boat. If the scouts would like a safety boat, Mike says some of the Redding Coast Guard Auxiliary people frequently patrol Black Butte and he could probably get orders written for these people. Let me know. |
| 10/1/2009 12:01:57 AM | Jason | Great! we need all the help we can get. I will post the final info when I get it. I think that we are just showing up on Saturday morning rigging and sailing. I think that they would like to be on the water around 10:00. That's 10/10/09 |
| 9/30/2009 9:09:12 PM | Ranger Paul | Jason - I would VERY much like to do this so count me in. What time? The only showstopper is if my wife gets ill (which she does often) but I don't think that will happen. What time? BTW: Stinkpot Mike (Coast Grard Aux) would probably love to act as safety boat but I think he is involved with Fleet Week next weekend. I know Stinkpot Mike and Hannelore would love to get involved including a boating safety class which they teach. |
| 9/28/2009 10:19:12 AM | Jason | The plan is to go sailing at Black Butte Lake. I am a little nervous about the water level. Does anyone know how full it is? Ranger Paul, It would be great if you could bring the Hunter out for a while. It would be nice to represent the monohull crowd a bit. |
| 9/26/2009 10:22:55 AM | Ranger Paul | Our sailing plans for Lake Almanor today changed...a ZERO wind forecast just doesn't make the long trip seem worthwhile! Going to Whiskeytown Wednesday instead of anyone is interested in going. |
| 9/25/2009 11:35:32 PM | Ranger Paul | Jason - where will you be sailing on Oct 10 with the Boy Scouts? |
| 9/25/2009 5:05:10 PM | pmelcon | looks like a windless weekend...will probably stay off the water. Jason, I should be able to help with the scouts. paul |
| 9/23/2009 10:21:54 AM | Jason | On another note. I will be helping the Boyscouts go sailing on Oct. 10th. The scoutmaster will have his F-31R(Trimaran) and I will have the F-27(Tri) but we still need to find a couple smaller boats hopefully monohulls to let the kids sail around in and get them working on their
sailing merit badges. So anyone that would like to help just speak up and I will give you all the info. Thanks everyone and remember if we would like to see people sailing in the future we need to make a good impression on the kids today! |
| 9/23/2009 10:16:39 AM | Jason | Sorry, after two consecutive weeks of regatta racing I am due for a little at home time plus it is my little girls first Birthday party on Sat. I would love to get out on Almanor, oh well.
Happy Birthday Samantha! |
| 9/21/2009 7:35:31 PM | Ranger Paul | Going to trek to Lake Almanor this Saturday with my sis and hubby for a family sail. Anyone want to join in? |
| 9/18/2009 4:50:22 PM | Pharmd842 | Very nice site! |
| 9/18/2009 4:50:11 PM | Pharmd538 | Very nice site! cheap cialis http://yieopxa.com/yxyrxkx/4.html |
| 9/18/2009 4:49:55 PM | Pharmd956 | Very nice site! cheap cialis |
| 9/16/2009 9:56:02 AM | jason | Also it was nice and windy, we hit 24MPH a few times that day. |
| 9/16/2009 9:54:56 AM | jason | Whiskeytown was great. There was no regatta, The BSC calendar was wrong. But we sailed anyway on Saturday and had a good time. We did spend the night and sailed again on sunday. They had a fun regatta on Sunday so we ran two races with them. There was a guy there with a very nice Nacra 6.0 and he beat us in both races but we had fun anyway. It was a good place for us to attempt racing the trimaran for the first time. We learned a LOT! |
| 9/16/2009 1:01:24 AM | Karen | Jason, How was Whiskeytown? |
| 9/11/2009 10:28:02 AM | jason | anyone racing at whiskeytown this weekend? We will be racing the Trimaran |
| 9/1/2009 2:29:39 PM | pmelcon | Sunday was 9-11 on the Afterbay--two kite sailors and a few powerboats. the weeds are nusiance and we were continually clearing boards every time we got close to shore. A pleasant sail. |
| 8/28/2009 7:28:26 PM | Karen | Yes, Paul the mtg. is on a Monday- check your email also. A bunch of people are gong out about noon. For those of us who have to work, we will get there as soon as possible. Everyone is welcome to come on out. It is a potluck BBQ. Bring your favorite to throw on the grill, share, and drink. BBQ at 5:30ish. Questions, call me. |
| 8/26/2009 5:53:06 PM | Jason | Thanks Math Nerd, Like we don't know who you are. The two throwouts should be the two highest scores as we are trying to get the lowerest score possible. However you are correct that the throwouts are both the same and they are not supposed to be. |
| 8/26/2009 3:03:55 PM | Math Nerd | There appears to be an error in the MHRA standings calculations. The two throw outs should be the two lowest scores. Right now they appear to be two identical of the lowest score. |
| 8/24/2009 3:46:13 PM | Jason | That trimaran is really something, once youre above15 or so and your completely on a plane
you can't really tell the difference between 16knots and 22knots. Steady on the tiller that thing turns on a dime. |
| 8/24/2009 3:42:37 PM | Jason | Too bad we missed you at lake O yesterday. The wind was honkin we were steadily maintaining 25mph down the lake. We also got to see the Martin Mars water tanker take off and land. That was quite a sight to behold. |
| 8/22/2009 11:35:58 PM | Jason | By the way Trapout just became a Calvert sails dealer so if anyone with a multihull wants a set of kick ass sails look me up online at Trapout.com |
| 8/22/2009 11:34:22 PM | Jason | Practice, Practice, Practice. we have to get up to speed on the F boat if we are going to be racing the big shots in the bay area next year. Time to show the bay that Chico can produce some contenders. |
| 8/22/2009 11:31:57 PM | jason | C'mon Paul head out to the spillway and sail on Oroville. Should be some decent breeze.
We will be sailing the Fboat. |
| 8/22/2009 11:31:54 PM | jason | C'mon Paul head out to the spillway and sail on Oroville. Should be some decent breeze.
We will be sailing the Fboat. |
| 8/22/2009 7:17:26 PM | pmelcon | 8/31 is a Monday? Is the Chico Yach Club meeting on Sunday? |
| 8/22/2009 7:15:22 PM | pmelcon | Going to Black Butte tomorrow for a warm and wet sail. Leaving Chico at 1 o'clock. Anyone else? |
| 8/21/2009 6:05:44 PM | Jason | We will be out on Lake Oroville on Sunday with the F boat. Looks like there should be some breeze. If not it will be a great day for swimming. Hope to see you all out there! |
| 8/17/2009 2:20:39 PM | Karen | For those interested, Chico Yacht Club is mtg. at the Forebay on 8/31 12-dark. BBQ at 5ish. Bring your sailboats, kayaks, food to BBQ and share if you are interested in checking out joining that club. |
| 8/13/2009 6:43:54 PM | Bruce Gillette | I miss sailing with you folks. Not much sailing here in Utah. Your web site has a new look and it is great. Planning to move back to California next year and settling up near Whiskeytown. I always liked sailing there. I still have the Precision 165. |
| 8/10/2009 12:02:02 AM | jason | Well we got the Islander 27 home and it looks pretty good. The trailer I built worked great with no problems on the way home. If there is ater we will take it out to oroville in a few weeks. |
| 8/8/2009 9:49:02 AM | alexd597 | Very nice site! |
| 8/8/2009 9:48:58 AM | alexg921 | Very nice site! is it yours too http://apxoiey.com/aoxxvx/4.html |
| 8/8/2009 9:48:55 AM | alexd995 | Very nice site! is it yours too |
| 8/4/2009 12:55:45 AM | Jason | Wow! that sucks. We have not reveived anything about a boat tax. Knok on wood. It's probably worth a call to someone. |
| 8/3/2009 3:32:53 PM | Karen | Great Youtube videos Jason...a great way to cool off watching them. Found them by looking up nacraj to search. No I haven't had a problem with Butte County Tax issue. |
| 8/1/2009 12:28:50 AM | John | Has anyone received a Butte County Property Tax Bill for their sailboat? They sent me a letter in the mail a few months ago asking where the boat (1984 Nacra 5.2) was stored and how much I bought it for ($400). Now I got a bill saying the assessed value is $3320 and they want to tax me 10% of that. What's the deal? Should I have it re-assessed? Is it worth the hassle? |
| 7/31/2009 3:07:50 PM | Jason | Is anyone sailing this Saturday? |
| 7/27/2009 10:50:17 AM | Jason | There were solid 4' rollers coming down the slot and we hit something that kicked the rudder up when we were going full tilt with the spinnaker up, aprox 25-26mph. That was an exciting few minuets. Once we got the boat back under control we realized that we were on a course to go directly behind a giant high speed ferry. We literally jumped thier wake and landed with a huge smack back on the water. All the while not dropping below 20mph. I will post the videos on Youtube. Check em out! |
| 7/27/2009 10:45:53 AM | Jason | Wow! was that a ride on Saturday. Beating against wind and tide from Richmond out throught the Golden Gate took almost 4 hrs. But the spinnaker ride back down on a 27' tri
only took 35 min. Talk about an amazing machine. |
| 7/25/2009 5:25:20 PM | pmelcon | am with grandchildren this weekend. would have enjoyed an F-27 ride. next Saturday is club day at Black Butte. It is currently at 458 feet-lots of water for this time of the year. |
| 7/22/2009 9:59:09 AM | Jason | This Saturday we will be sailing the F-27 in the SF bay. We will be launching near Richmond.
Anyone else sailing in the bay this weekend? |
| 7/19/2009 12:57:19 AM | Jason | Took the F boat to Lake Oroville today. Wind was good and we covered a lot of ground. Saw a few other sailboats out there having a good time as well. It was nice to be at the lake on sucha hot day. |
| 7/17/2009 3:55:55 PM | Jason | Hey Paul, We are taking the F-27 out to Lake Oroville Tomorrow if you would like to go.
We will probably be there around 11:00 or so. Call me on the Trapout phone if you would like to go 518-2687 -=J=- We will be looking for wind. |
| 7/17/2009 3:17:02 PM | pmelcon | Jasona dn Paul did repeat at Eagle Lake. I abandoned 2 of 4 races on Saturday due to high winds--on Sunday all racing was cancelled. Sunday looks like it will be windy at Black Butte. Paul |
| 7/12/2009 11:29:11 PM | Jason | Well Eagle lake proved to be quite the adventure this year with high winds making for exciting racing conditions. With people capsizing left and right it was lucky we made it back in in one peice. Good times |
| 7/9/2009 5:32:53 PM | pmelcon | congratulations JASON and PAUL! I hope you can't repeat at Eagle Lake. I will leave tomorrow by noon. Looks like good winds unless there is a thunderstorm interruption. paul |
| 7/8/2009 8:38:23 PM | Karen | Just got a call from someone who is looking for crew at Eagle Lake this weekend.
His name is Jim Hood and his # is 394- 8313 if you are interested- give him a call and get details.
Don't know anything about his boat. |
| 7/6/2009 11:07:13 AM | Jason | Well we are back from an interesting weekend at Klamath Lake. The regatta was great and as usual the yacht club was very nice. And as usual we may have spent a little too much time up at the bar. Just kidding. Barring a few minor protest issues everything went good and Paul and I ended up taking first place with Pete and Travis in second and Peavy in third for a change. Who knew it could happen. Can't wait for Eagle next week! |
| 7/1/2009 10:36:09 AM | Jason | John, Are you going to make it up to Klamath this weekend? There is a yacht club so you don't have to worry about a camp site or anything. Just show up. We will be leaving Friday after Paul gets off work. |
| 6/25/2009 10:07:16 AM | Jason | I have not seem any pics of you upsidedown but there are a lot of pics from that weekend. I am sending them to Pete so that he can post them on the MHRA site along with the results. |
| 6/24/2009 7:24:40 PM | John | Did anyone get a picture of my capsizing at the start of Huntington? Or any of the pictures that were taken that day? I will be back next year...with crew this time. |
| 6/24/2009 11:14:32 AM | Jason | Paul, There is something wrong with the aspect ratio of the site or something. on my standard screen monitor there is like two layers of info. You may want to check it out. |
| 6/23/2009 1:16:21 PM | Dan S. | Huntington was amazing! I got to crew for Marco on his Nacra 5.8 and we had a great time. We even made the Trapout.com and Rhino teams sweat a little when we beat them to the upwind mark on the last race Sunday. But once the spinnakers went up on the down wind run it was all over and we had to settle for 11th overall. This is a lake you HAVE to make a point to sail! |
| 6/22/2009 1:41:18 AM | Jason | Well we made it back from the Commodores regatta at Huntington lake CA. The regatta was fantastic!!. Great racing and good times were had by all. We took 8th overall which you can't help but feel good about with the high caliber of sailors that were there. We ran a new spinnaker for the first time this regatta and although there were a few snags we adjusted pretty well and did the best we could to get some speed out of her. Hope to see you all on the water soon!!! |
| 6/19/2009 3:28:22 PM | pmelcon | hope to get out sat or sun. anyone going to be on the water? |
| 6/17/2009 9:57:24 AM | Jason | John, We are staying at the Kinnikinnick Campground in space 002. When are you planning
on showing up? |
| 6/16/2009 1:24:16 PM | jason | Sweet, See you there |
| 6/15/2009 10:39:15 PM | John | Cool, thanks Jason. I will take you up on camping spot too. See you there. |
| 6/15/2009 4:24:26 PM | jason | John, You have to go to Huntington. Yes, If you sail with no jib by yourself you should be able to take the appropriate handicap. You don't want to miss this. You can camp with us if you want. |
| 6/13/2009 3:58:41 PM | John | If I race at Huntington and there is a lot of wind, I was thinking about going without a jib. Could I use the "US" modification (along with my "L4" for under weight) to my handicap number. Would anyone recommend this for single handing?
|
| 6/12/2009 9:50:13 PM | Tracie | Thanks Dan for the outing on Last Saturday. I was able to pick up a lot of pointer while spending time with BSC. |
| 6/12/2009 9:48:59 PM | Tracie | Anyone going sailing on lake Oroville on Saturday afternoon? I'm thinking about taking a boat out for the first time and wouldn't mind an expert to show me the ropes. |
| 6/8/2009 11:39:11 PM | jason | Hi John, Great racing this weekend. You are getting faster everytime we see you. You gonna make it to Huntington? We have room in our campsite. Pete said that he was going to get the website updated right away. I will send an email to remind him. |
| 6/8/2009 8:13:31 PM | John Hudson | Thanks everyone for the great weekend of racing. I'm learning something new every time. When will the MHRA website be updated with the Chico Classic and Go for the Gold results? |
| 6/8/2009 5:57:33 PM | Jason | My dad did much better this weekend on his new Prindle "That 70's boat". He is starting to get things figured out and the boats speed is becoming apparent. |
| 6/8/2009 5:56:14 PM | Jason | Well, Go for the gold was fun. There was wind and although challenging we did get in 4 races during the weekend. Pete takes 1st on the Rhino, Peavy 2nd on the no name, and Paul and I 3rd on Trapout. John did great on his Nacra 5.2 he was right with us the whole weekend, won't be long now and we will be seeing the back of his boat. |
| 6/8/2009 10:10:02 AM | pmelcon | Good to see you and Wade on the water yesterday. Sparkling conditions. I wish that I had remembered to bring a jib! Still, we tried sailing without the boom and may leave it onshore from now on... |
| 6/6/2009 11:30:35 PM | Ranger Paul | Yeah! Truck if fixed so we will be there. I need crew. |
| 6/6/2009 8:50:30 PM | Ranger Paul | I will miss y'all tomorrow. My wife is finally up to sailing, I got my boat fixed...then my darn truck broke and it is in irons at the auto shop. Drat! Won't make August as we are in St. Louis. I will be sailing as soon as my truck if fixed but it will probably be during the week...love being retired...every day is Saturday. |
| 6/5/2009 4:43:37 PM | Brian | Need a crew at Scott's Flat Regatta.
Eeeek! My crew for this weekend has been *GROUNDED*!! Well, I'm coming up even if it means sailing with a gimpy girlfriend and two small children, but if anyone knows or can bring an able-bodied hand, I would be very grateful! 510-468-8666 |
| 6/5/2009 3:04:26 PM | pmelcon | a couple of folks would like to crew on Sunday. if anyone needs a crew give me shout at 895-0363 paul your commodore. |
| 6/2/2009 7:02:03 PM | Karen | Way to go on the boat Dan. Mike, Jason, Paul, Dan, etc. Sounds like you all had a
great time in Eugene. School is now done. I'll miss sailing with BSC this weekend-
am off to a graduation in Tahoe. Then free for the summer...may you have wind! |
| 6/1/2009 11:13:12 PM | Dan S. | Hi Tracie. I'm new to sailing too. I just bought a Prindle 18-2 a few weeks ago. It's a good fast cat and I sure could use someone to crew! I sailed my first regatta this weekend up in Eugene. It was more fun than I thought and at least I didn't place last! Lol! |
| 6/1/2009 11:00:58 PM | Jason | Sorry but we won't be able to amke it to the fun sail this weekend as we will be at the Go for the Gold regatta at Scotts Flat lake. That's too bad because I really like the Bloomer cove sail. |
| 6/1/2009 10:58:48 PM | Jason | We just got back from the Live on the edge regatta in Eugene. It was great! fantastic race commitee and good wind. With the exception of Peavy all the boats in our class ran spinnakers. Oh yea there was an A cat as well. Very competetive racing and Paul and I took home a 5th place. Very nice yacht club, we need that at lake Oroville. I'll work on it. |
| 5/31/2009 5:27:24 PM | pmelcon | Sailing is next Sunday--up towards Bloomer. Sorry about the date mixup. |
| 5/29/2009 4:41:35 PM | pmelcon | click below the shoutbox title to get on the amiling list. |
| 5/29/2009 4:40:58 PM | pmelcon | Tracie--the club is sailing next Saturday. Are you looking for a ride? Mark--if you are trailering the boat there are several storage yards but none on the lake itself. Otherwise there are dock and anchor slots at Bidwell Marina. The Merit 22 is a nice performer--I look forward to seeing it. Jason--breeze was always there at 6-10. Whiskeytown always setttles in with a big right shift--the question is when it happens. |
| 5/29/2009 12:39:23 PM | Mark | I have a merit 22 looking to get into a good sailing club and start racing again. Where are you headquartered and where is a good place to keep a boat on the lake. 632-3802 |
| 5/29/2009 12:14:41 AM | Tracie | This club sounds like it has a lot of fun. Would anyone be interested in giving me a little more information. I have sailed and have a small boat. It would be great to recieve some lessons before I venture to far onto the lake. I'm a great crew hand for racing and still learning the ropes. 521-6596 |
| 5/27/2009 2:33:30 PM | jason | I know all about being on the wrong side of a permanent shift. You did well to hang on to 3rd.
was there much of a breese? |
| 5/26/2009 8:11:56 PM | pmelcon | the raven played the oscillating breeze to perfection in Sunday's first race at Whiskeytown and was poised to win the class. in race two, we were ahead when the oscillating breeze made a permanent shift--with us on the wrong side of the course! how to go from 1st to 3rd in a few seconds...still, we learned and the other boats were quite happy with their result. |
| 5/20/2009 4:05:25 PM | pmelcon | Jason has two great suggestions. On my Prindle I backed the rivets with an aluminum track on the inside of the hull. This required me to put an access port on the inside of the hulls, halfway between the beams. My boat already had intermediate holes drilled and the track had pulled off several times. |
| 5/19/2009 11:23:44 PM | Jason | Well I am not sure exactly how your tramp mounts but I would say that an easy fix would be to just drill and add new rivets inbetween the existing rivets giving it alot more support. or you could always buy my nacra for 5g's |
| 5/19/2009 6:02:05 PM | John | My Nacra is wounded...The rivets holding my trampoline track to my hull at starting to pull out of my hull, causing cracks to form at the holes in the fiberglass. Any suggestions? I was going to drill out the rivets, inject the holes with apoxy, redrill the holes, and replace rivets with nuts and bolts with washers on the inside of my hull. |
| 5/18/2009 9:56:05 AM | Jason | Well Saturday turned out to be great. We took the Prindle to lake Oroville and had a very nice sail. There were quite a few other sailboats out there as well. Not a whole lot of breeze but enough to keep us crusing at around 6-9 mph the whole day. Good day for my dad to practice with his new boat. |
| 5/17/2009 10:02:46 AM | Sailfish | Congratulations Wade! Every Wet Dog has his days! |
| 5/16/2009 9:08:44 AM | jason | looks like a great day of sailing awaits us today. Lets all head out to the afterbay! Paul and I will be there as well as my dad with his Prindle. |
| 5/14/2009 9:26:39 AM | Mark B. | Great Job Wade.... but where's all this surprise coming from. You've been doing this to the Centerboard fleet of the Butte Sailing Club for Years... I say it's about you shared the pain with the rest of northern CA! All the best, Mark & Kelly |
| 5/13/2009 10:12:14 AM | Karen | Paul, Web page looks great!! |
| 5/10/2009 10:25:07 AM | pmelcon | I can take folks out on the prindle --sailing is, unfathomably, a hard sell. i like the parade idea. hope to see you on the water. paul |
| 5/7/2009 9:25:52 PM | Ranger Paul | We are going to be in the July 4 parade in Paradise for the club again this year. This year, I will have a sign saying "Free demo sail/sailing lesson 872-2258" in the hopes of garnering interest in sailing. Anyone 1) wanting to be in the parade also or 2) who is willing to provide a sailing demo please contact me. I plan on having the people sign a liability release. |
| 5/7/2009 1:28:51 PM | Jason | Great job at the Camellia Cup. Way to go Raven! |
| 5/4/2009 1:38:18 PM | Karen | Wade, BA, Paul and Wade - congrats on winning the Camelia Cup!!!
And we know you!!! |
| 5/4/2009 1:37:23 PM | Karen | Dan, Jason's dad- congrats on your new boat- did you get it up here?
Yes and feel free to call also- hope to get the boat in the water Thurs. after work.
|
| 5/3/2009 1:41:11 PM | Dan S. | Oops! Sorry Karen, Wrong Dan. I thought your comment was in reference to our conversation at Black Butte the other day. I didn't realize there was another Dan here! |
| 5/3/2009 11:29:06 AM | Dan | Hey Karen, my number is 863-9607 |
| 5/1/2009 7:03:57 PM | Ranger Paul | Watching the Volvo Ocean race this winter and noticed they all gybed the Asym on the outside instead of the inside. I have been going inside. My question is what happens to the lazy sheet when gybing outside? Does it fall under the bowsprit? Does it drag in the water? I just can't picture it... |
| 5/1/2009 7:00:51 PM | Ranger Paul | heel marks in my white cockpit. I got my sails cleaned/refurbished at Sail Care this winter and they look beautiful. Going to need sunglasses to gaze on the clean white boat and sails!
|
| 5/1/2009 6:58:39 PM | Ranger Paul | I am still alive and cookin'! Dragged the boat off the logging road and into driveway for spring cleaning/modifications. Bought a winch to raise the mast as Gisela is becoming less and less able to help setup/knockdown. Her health may be stabilizing so we may be able to start sailing again...I hope. I presume tomorrow will be postponed a week and maybe I can come out in a week. Other mods include a new forestay tang...some of the tangs on the Hunter 216's have broken. I know of two cases and they were able to save the rig both times. Took me a whole day to cleanup 3 years worth of black |
| 4/30/2009 6:14:36 PM | Jason | Looks like we are going to hit up the Eugene Live on the edge regatta in a few weeks.
Should be fun. We have never been to the Eugene yacht club, looks nice. Peavy will be there as well, heck sounds like Pete and Travis might make the treck as well. |
| 4/30/2009 4:03:39 PM | Mark F | Hi Jason, Please tell your Dad congrats on the 18-2! Cool, another Chico Cat! Hi Mark Barr - look forward to seeing you again soon too. Give my best to your family! |
| 4/26/2009 10:59:25 PM | jason | great sailing today at the afterbay. Dads new 18-2 goes really good. We had a couple races and he was right there both times. Paul and I had our hands full just trying to keep up. But the wind was somewhat light and shifty. We finaly got a chance to try my new spinnaker system. So far so good it raises and snuffs like a dream. See Ya, -=J=- |
| 4/25/2009 12:05:00 PM | pmelcon | am currently in the city but will be back tomorrow. if i can correl a crew i will try to come. what time? looks light from the south, turning westerly and dying (a typeical pattern) |
| 4/24/2009 5:41:04 PM | Jason | On another note my dad picked up a Prindle 18-2 this week. It is a very nice boat and we will
be putting it through it's paces at the Afterbay on Sunday. Anyone interested? |
| 4/24/2009 5:39:40 PM | Jason | We are all still waiting to have you surprise us and show up at an event with a Nacra 5.8 and smoke everyone! :) |
| 4/24/2009 5:38:36 PM | Jason | Hey Mark good to hear from you. Yes mike and jody did win again. We had great wind double trap conditions on Saturday and single trap conditions on Sunday winding down to not even a breath at the end. We had a really great raffle on Saturday evening with tons of great prizes including Mulletron riding his waverunner(inside joke). We had a good turnout with 22 boats including an A cat and two spinnaker riged cats. Good Times |
| 4/24/2009 12:45:21 AM | Mark B. | Hey cat sailors, How was this year's multihull classic? Was there any wind? Did Mike and Jody win AGAIN? I was otherwise engaged that weekend, but thought about the old days... |
| 4/22/2009 11:35:02 AM | Karen | Dan, Tried to email you more info and your email does not work. |
| 4/21/2009 9:59:35 AM | dan | Hi all. I'm not a member yet. If you accept stone cold newbies, I'd join. You all look like a good group of people. Hope it's ok to post without being a member. I've asked Paul to put me on mailing list so I can track what's going on. I've crewed big boats in Puget Sound and Channel Is. but only a few times on a lake. Very different. If there is someone interested in sailing on weekdays, I'd love to go out more. I have a Venture 21' or would crew on your boat just to learn. I'm 53, easy going. dan@digstrat.com is my email. |
| 4/15/2009 12:05:07 AM | pmelcon | The spillway at Black Butte is at 474--the lake is at 458--there will be room to rig on the beach and a big lake to sail on. Unfortunately, the big northerly is going to die out and leave us with a drifter.Bad luck for all but perhaps the weather will change. |
| 4/13/2009 8:02:10 PM | jason | I can't wait. Are you racing? |
| 4/13/2009 6:44:13 PM | Karen | Jason- see you on the water this weekend! |
| 4/13/2009 12:03:02 AM | Jason | Karen, I will try to attend the CYC meeting in a couple weeks. There are a few of us that are very interested in being a part of the floating campground weekend. I would be glad to help in any way that I can. Thanks for the invite! |
| 4/11/2009 6:15:15 PM | Karen | The CYC mtg. 4/27 is open to BSC to find out about the floating campground open
for us to share on May 15/16 weekend. The thought is BSC could pitch in maybe
$10/person to CYC since they reserved it. But we need to do a head count from both clubs.
Feel free to call me. |
| 4/9/2009 2:38:39 PM | Karen | There is a Chico Yacht Club mtg. on 6 p.m. at Mike Pollard's on April 27, Monday
2365 Stearn's rd. Paradise- off Pentz Rd. Let me know if you want further info. |
| 4/6/2009 5:23:12 PM | Jason | The Chico Classic is coming up on April 18-19 at Black Butte Lake. Open to all multihull boats. If anyone is interested just ask and I will forward you all the info. There will be some great racing as well as a campfire with a raffle that you won't want to miss! |
| 3/22/2009 11:16:50 AM | Jason | Wow that's cool. Yea that trimaran really moves. It looked like you were doing really well.
We tried to "race" without getting in anyones wind. I think we stayed out of everyones way.
We started to get overpowered as well but we put up a smaller jib. Goot times |
| 3/22/2009 4:43:45 AM | Bryan | Jason we had a first place going. And then the wind picked up and we were over powered with our 164% genoa. Should of put up 140% but we were on our last leg and figured we would lose to much time with sail change. Managed to get a Second place! Lost first by like 30 seconds! Saw you on the F27! Nice boat! That trimaran flies! The first cat I ever sailed on was a 60s California Cat. Fast for its days. I was 5 years old when I sailed on it! |
| 3/20/2009 1:00:34 PM | jason | Thanks, I have been making sales, but as always we need more to keep this thing growing!
Anyone sailing this weekend? |
| 3/16/2009 9:47:49 PM | dennis | trapsite looks good--if i ever get my boat out the back yard I will use it. |
| 3/15/2009 11:21:10 PM | Jason | By the way anyone that visits trapout and doesnt see what they need please give me a shout out at jason@trapout.com and let me know what your looking for and I will get it in asap. Thanks for your support. -=Jason=- |
| 3/15/2009 11:17:42 PM | jason | I am hoping to get my website www.trapout.com up and running as soon as possible that way I can look into something like a Beneteau 42 or something along those lines. So anyone reading this should go to Trapout.com and buy something. Even if it is only to keep as a spare part!!! I need all the help I can get to get this company off the ground. |
| 3/15/2009 11:14:36 PM | jason | I was with Travis from the MHRA and my dad. It was a lot of fun and I hope didn't cause anyone any grieff out there, we tried not to throw a shadow on anyone. I am interested in the floating campground. I would love to get the info for that if we are invited. Just let me know where and when. I asume that you are talking about me selling the Cal 25. I sold it because I am not sure about the future so I should cut down on expenses while I still can. |
| 3/15/2009 8:41:50 PM | Karen | Reminder: BCS is invited to the CYC floating campground on May 15/16.
I may need to get there late on Sat. Please let me know is you are interested. |
| 3/15/2009 8:39:41 PM | Karen | Jason- I was on the lake yesterday on a C25- didn't realize that was you- who were you sailing with?
Saw the Oroville Race. You were whizzing along with them!! Why are you selling your boat and what
are you getting next?
|
| 3/15/2009 1:35:08 PM | jason | I keep Travis's F boat at my house. It has the standar non rotating rig. We were maintaining
16+ knts all day. I am posting some videos on youtube. when I get done I will post the titles here so everyone can watch them. |
| 3/15/2009 10:35:44 AM | pmelcon | F-27, i did not know that one was in the area. which rig is on it? |
| 3/14/2009 9:13:29 PM | jason | Man that was a fantastic sail today!!! We saw the LOYC out on the water. We had a great time racing around with those guys. Hopefully staying out of thier way as we were not really in the race. Bryan how did you do? |
| 3/14/2009 10:46:31 AM | jason | We are taking the F-27 out on lake oroville today. Anyone else sailing? |
| 3/12/2009 12:06:35 PM | pmelcon | Say dawn, on of the best nights on lake Oroville is watching the fireworks in front of the dam--boats have the best view of all. Our great hope is that the lake still has some water in it this year--there is a link to the current level on the Lake Maps and Ionfor on this site and we will post when it drops below the ramps. |
| 3/6/2009 4:15:28 PM | pmelcon | looks like 7-8 tomorrow and i will be on the water--Nielson is my crew and I hope that he wil not be disoriented by the extra hull. may even be sunny.... |
| 3/6/2009 2:50:59 PM | Dawn | We have a McGregor (26 foot)...wanting a bigger boat of course! But, we are trailorable, so it's a good feature- |
| 3/6/2009 1:51:21 PM | Jason | No Doubt about it, Lake Oroville is great. But before you load up this summer be sure to check the water levels. Unless we keep getting rain the lake might be very low by then. I love bay sailing. I actually bought a boat from someone at Oyster point. I have a slip a Treasure Island myself. The truth is I am actually selling as we speak. But i should have another one soon. What kind of boat do you have at Oyster point? |
| 3/6/2009 10:15:14 AM | Dawn | Also, my husband is an avid sailor on the bay, so if anyone ever wants to hang & sail, we're docked at Oyster Point... |
| 3/6/2009 10:10:17 AM | Dawn | It sounds like this lake is a fabulous sailing lake...can anyone give more details? We're thinking about making the trek up there from SF for the 4th this year with our sailboat.... |
| 3/6/2009 9:40:59 AM | Jason | Paging Dr. Melcon Anyone home? |
| 3/4/2009 4:37:18 PM | Jason | So who else is in for this weekend? Looks like it's going to be great weather. |
| 2/15/2009 7:57:11 PM | nacraj | Can we go sailing yet!!! I am starting to get land sickness. Another day or so and Lake Oroville should be full right? |
| 2/13/2009 11:18:39 PM | jason | looks like I will also be stuck ashore. I guess you can't win'em all. |
| 2/13/2009 11:07:38 PM | pmelcon | I am in the bay area and am not sailing. Weather is horrible, about like last sunday at the afterbay. Maybe next week. |
| 2/13/2009 9:25:05 AM | Karen | My plan to sail in the bay got canceled due to weather. I think Paul may be out of town.
Great photos Paul on the website! Thanks. |
| 2/13/2009 12:08:36 AM | Jason | Anyone sailing this weekend?
|
| 2/6/2009 6:30:26 PM | Lise Smith-Peters | Will be there. I will enjoy the time out even if there is no ride! |
| 2/6/2009 4:52:36 PM | pmelcon | Anyone need a crew? See below and send me an email that I will forward to Lise. Anyhow, I always suggest showing up--there are generally rides available. |
| 2/5/2009 9:25:09 PM | Lise Smith-Peters | I would like to catch a ride on Sunday if anyone has need for crew? I have a Flying Scot in my driveway but no way of transporting it right now. Used to crew on Thistles and did foredeck on J24s when I was a bit younger! |
| 2/5/2009 5:54:27 PM | Jason | Bryan, If you see this can you give me a shout? I think that you had mentioned that you have a trailer for your San Juan. I was wondering if I could maybe borrow it for a couple weeks to clean the bottom of my Cal 25? If you want you can email me at jpsailing@hotmail.com. Or if anyone knows of a trailer that is up for grabs let me know. |
| 2/2/2009 10:39:38 AM | PMELCON | THIS IS THE SCOOP FOR NEXT SUNDAY!
Great to hear that you guys/gals will be looking to sail along with a bunch of other rag-tag group of sailors this coming Sunday.
Our plan, wind-willing, is to set up a short race course from the western facing dock, (start buoy) to a mark just beyond the land point to starboard, with the finish line between the dock and the start buoy. We have done this course in the past and it makes for a varied set of tacks to the mark with usually a down-wind run to the finish. If the wind is good, we can get several races in for the day. The covered picnic ta |
| 2/1/2009 5:30:12 PM | jason | man the sailing in the SF bay was fantastic yesterday. 12-14kt winds and sunny all day. We went out under the Golden gate for a ways then back around Alcatraz then home to Treasure Island. There was a bunch of racing going on out there st least a couple hundered sailboats. There were open 5.70s, F-27s and everything inbetween. I need to haul out the CAl 25 does anyone have a trailer that I could borrow for a couple weeks? |
| 1/29/2009 7:34:21 PM | Karen | Count me in but would need to crew. |
| 1/26/2009 5:31:19 PM | jason | I think we should definitely switch it to Sunday so we are there with everyone else. Be sure to thank him for the invite! |
| 1/26/2009 1:11:31 PM | Jason | Yes |
| 1/25/2009 7:58:25 PM | pmelcon | it is a wise sailor who knows what too much wind is. i try not to leave shore when there is so much wind that i know that it will not be fun.Mark Conry sent the following messag: "eA number of us are planning to sail our Flying Juniors on the Forebay on Sunday, February 8th. We will set up sometime between 9 and 10 and hope to catch a breeze shortly thereafter. You and your sailing buddies from within or without the BSC are welcome to join the fun. As always, the more the merrier! " -- BSC is currently scheduled for Sat the 6th. Should we change? |
| 1/25/2009 10:08:35 AM | jason | too much wind in the bay for us today.
|
| 1/23/2009 10:48:28 PM | jason | Sunday we will be sailing in the bay all day. If anyone else will be down there give me a call.
Should be a great day. The wind around here looks dismal. |
| 1/23/2009 11:17:10 AM | Jason | Sunday for sure. Can't decide if we are sailing here or in the bay |
| 1/22/2009 9:35:49 PM | Karen | Can't on Saturday- maybe Sunday. |
| 1/22/2009 2:43:34 PM | Jason | That might be where I am headed. |
| 1/22/2009 11:17:29 AM | pmelcon | Only if I do not have to make a quick trip to Bay Area--will know tomorrow. |
| 1/21/2009 12:03:40 PM | Jason | Is anyone sailing this weekend? Caus I wanna go. |
| 1/18/2009 11:11:26 AM | pmelcon | lake weeds were basically gone--the cold is hard on them too. this is one of the few sails that i have had that was accompanied by shotguns going off. a bit disconcerting but that is recreation too. |
| 1/17/2009 7:14:06 PM | Ranger Paul | How was the Hydrilla. Y'all sailed the afterbay...right? I really need to get Paradise Found wet again. My sails are currently on the east coast being cleaned/reconditioned. Won't be back for another 6 weeks. |
| 1/16/2009 10:40:49 AM | pmelcon | I will get jason's pictures up today. This weekend looks beautiful but windless. |
| 1/14/2009 10:50:29 PM | jason | ok,ok I sent them to Paul. Yeah that was great. In that kind of breeze it is maddening to try and escape the clutches of the pink slip!!! |
| 1/14/2009 10:15:54 PM | Mark | Jason, How come we're not seeing any photos taken from your boat? What's the deal dude? Turn 'em in, OK? ... Hey, great sailing with you guys, even if the breeze was nothing to speak of... It does make nice reflection photos, right? |
| 1/14/2009 1:18:39 PM | Jason | What do you say we have a huge event right when the lake water level hits 700ft. I really can't wait to get back out on Lake Oroville. It has been a long time, Too Long... |
| 1/12/2009 1:33:32 PM | Jason | Great sail everyone! Not much wind but a lot of fun. Great pictures by the way. Too bad were not out there today, warm, sunny and breezy. I am already ready for the next evet! |
| 1/10/2009 8:58:52 AM | jason | sweet!!!
|
| 1/10/2009 8:31:04 AM | Mark | I'll be there with Mark Forwalter in Pink Slip. Sounds like a great day to get the boat wet! |
| 1/6/2009 11:12:28 AM | Jason | How exciting. It would be cool to see some more boats out there. Paul and I will be there for sure. What about Dave Neilson? We should also try to get the Barrs out there. |
| 1/5/2009 9:26:05 PM | pmelcon | initial call is for northerlies at 9mph on Saturday. This would be just fine. the Oroville Sailing Club may join us with their FJ group. Hope to see a flotilla on the Afterbay. |
| 1/5/2009 7:20:07 PM | Karen | Sorry -Jason, am sailing with Wade and crew up here on Saturday. Was in the bay Thurs- last Sat. Very cold!!! Hope to see you out this weekend up here. Paul, shoot me a call and we can go after I get off work this week. |
| 12/31/2008 9:24:14 AM | jason | Paul, I like the update to the site, very cool. One way or another I will be sailing this weekend. Maybe the afterbay on the Nacra or maybe the bay on the CAL. I could easily be swayed If a certain someone might be taking her Aquariuos to the bay? Nice free launching and parking at Emeryville. That's close to Treasure Island we could easily meet up out on the water. Sounds like fun. The question is will there be rain this weekend?
|
| 12/30/2008 10:09:31 PM | paul | i received sailing boots as a gift--like the intelligent pair that dave has with zippers on the side for cold hands. i presume they are warm and will try them out at the ano nuevo. have not seen the aquarius 23 on the hard or in the water yet. how about a tour, karen? richmond midwinters are this weekend with forecast at 5 from the north--is tough to go against the winter ebb in those conditions. |
| 12/28/2008 6:24:40 PM | Karen | No sailing this weekend? I got all glass back in and the mast up!!
am doing a little inside work but can't paint because it is too cold!
Paul, what sailing thing did you get for Christmas? |
| 12/28/2008 4:05:35 PM | jason | yeah, we passed as well. a little too light and Paul was cold. |
| 12/26/2008 12:23:27 AM | pmelcon | amazing...the lake actually went up a bit. still negotiating sailing this weekend. would like more than light winds but need to get out on the water. |
| 12/23/2008 12:47:22 PM | Jason | Paul, I might be interested in meeting up the weekend after Christmas. Where and when for this shindig? We need to get some practice in before the big racing season this year. |
| 12/21/2008 10:13:54 AM | Paul | Hi all. No time for sailing before Christmas but will be out one day the weekend after Christmas. It has been too long. I will talk to Karen about messages directly. I did read Jason's post in time but knew better than to broach sailing. Hope there was wind, although it seemed light in Chico. Club dues will be discussed with the treasurer. Rumor has it I am getting one sailing-theme present for Christmas. Huzaah and hurry up Santa! |
| 12/20/2008 4:31:45 PM | Karen | Just read your message- need more water and the last window in. Then a couple of other fixins and it will be ready to go. Have had to balance work and work and leisure- haven't had time to work on it.
Paul- great photos!! Have you thought about using the yahoo groups for messages? It sends them directly to your email when new messages are added so you see them. It is easy and I can show you if you are interested. |
| 12/19/2008 5:45:34 PM | Former member | Thanks for the contact info for Larry and Erin! It has been ages since I sailed, I have only good memories of sailing and the club. I no longer have access to a boat but will keep you guys in mind!. |
| 12/19/2008 10:32:49 AM | NacraJ | So, Who's sailing on Saturday? That's tomorrow. I am thinking about a little afterbay action.
Anyone in? I heard that it's going to be warm and sunny with a great little breeze and we whould have the whole lake to ourselves. Of course I don't expect anyone to read this in time.
Karen how about taking your new boat out? Probably still have the windows out huh. |
| 12/19/2008 10:29:07 AM | NacraJ | Just give them a shout at larr-eri@worldnet.att.net
Former member, are you going to join us for a sail?
|
| 12/18/2008 8:14:31 PM | Former member | Has anyone any idea on how to contact former Butte Sailing Club sailors named Larry and Erin? |
| 12/16/2008 8:20:07 PM | Karen | Paul and Cherril, You threw a great party-thank you!!
Are you collecting dues? Made out to you? I can drop it by.
I assume you are continuing as commodore or did someone else
volunteer or get nominated? |
| 12/15/2008 1:03:45 PM | Jason | Great party!!! Thanks for everything. |

| 11/10/2008 12:38:24 PM | Jason | So, How was the sail on the new Aquarious? Do you love it or what |
| 11/8/2008 6:39:44 AM | Karen | J and C, What kind of help do you need for your dinner next weekend? Can you email me?
Be happy to assist. |
| 11/8/2008 6:38:37 AM | Karen | Jason- if you are on the lake shoot me a call on my cell phone-I am planning to be out there. |
| 11/5/2008 9:36:39 AM | Jason | So Who's in for Saturday then? Looks like the weather could go either way right now. I am up for anything. I am just excited because I get to go pick up my new boat at Oyster point on Sunday and sail it up to my slip at Treasure Island. I got a CAl 25 and it is sweet!!! |
| 11/1/2008 2:49:56 PM | Ranger Paul | Plan on mucking thru mud. Short ramps are there but often not in the water very much because of rapid lake level changes. I launched in late summer. Managed to launch using dock. Dock was above water on way in so I had my son swim for it and get the truck. I came close to shore and yelled: "Swim for it lubber!" This was worth doing simply because of the fun aspect of kicking your kid overboard (couse he is close to 40 years old). |
| 11/1/2008 2:45:32 PM | Ranger Paul | Bidwell: Best launch for sailboat...I have launched Paradise Found from here. Plan on a hot launch and retrieve. Soft places on shoreline to nose boat in to pick up/disgorge vehicle driver. Many shallows and hazards so probably plan on paddling out then raising sails. |
| 11/1/2008 2:42:26 PM | Ranger Paul | Here's the deal on the ramps (both require 4WD) (pretend the docks do not exist as they are short and often unusable):
Spillway: When backing up for launch, can't really see ramp. Visions of backing the vehicle/boat off the edge messed with mind. Shore is rocky so no real place to beach boat to go get the truck. I would not launch here.
|
| 10/24/2008 1:30:07 PM | nacraJ | Let's try to drum up some support for this event and try to get a decent fleet out on the water. Calling all sailors!!!! I will go down and take a look at the launching situation. The worst thing about it is that there is no dock. Then again there wouldn't be a dock at the A-bay on that side anyway. See Ya -=J=- |
| 10/24/2008 1:26:10 PM | nacraj | Has anyone actually launched at the spillway? I as out there and you can still launch if you have a 4x4. My truck is 4 wheel drive and I have no problem putting the other boats in. I am just itching to get back out on Oroville. Are we talking about November 8th? Lets make it the Turkey day race so that I can get rid of the hiddious turkey head trophy. :) |
| 10/23/2008 9:48:01 PM | Ranger Paul | I have a motor so the wind and current conditions can be overidden. We could try this spot and, if I am out, I could tow others back to dock if the wind/current did not cooperate. But, Gisela is pretty fragile right now and I have to fix my keel hydraulics so I can't guarantee I will be there. |
| 10/23/2008 9:45:58 PM | Ranger Paul | I found a place in the Afterbay free of Hydrilla and seemed pretty good for sailing...but it is in end of the channel connecting the Forebay and Afterbay. Unfortunately there can be quite a current. When Mike and I were fishing there, it was a broad reach back to the launch dock/ramp which might help some sailing. |
| 10/23/2008 3:44:23 PM | pmelcon | Lake Oroville is sadly low and poor prospects for the next year. There is a benefit to living at the ocean. How about a November event at the Afterbay? |
| 10/12/2008 12:31:37 PM | Bryan | Lake Oroville was wet and wild yesterday! We had our last race of the season! 11 boats showed up. Winds gusting up to 25 knots. Tore my mainsail and had a couple of close knockdowns.Manged to to use my main reefed to two reef points down. Lots of rail burying and lots of fun. Best sail of the season! Tied for first place with the Santanna 28 Mariah
for total points all seasons trophy. Great year for Driftwood and crew! |
| 10/6/2008 10:54:10 PM | jason | HI all, The Champagne Regatta was great at Bodega bay. The seas were angry after a small storm came though Friday night. The racing was fierce but I took home 2,2,3,1. That's good enough for second place overall. Although I did prove that you CAN pitchpole a Nacra 5.8 :) |
| 10/5/2008 11:11:57 PM | pmelcon | Tried the afterbay on Thurs with the cat and Sat with the RAVEN. Both boats were continually loaded with hydrilla--impossible helm on the cat and we were forever clearing the boards and rudders. The Raven was slowed to to a crawl at times (relative). The amount of weed being dragged was ridiculous and there is a definite problem in the lake. |
| 10/2/2008 4:54:13 PM | Ranger Paul | Be careful in the Afterbay Sat. Stinkpot Mike and I went fishing today and it is loaded with Hydrilla. We clogged the intake to his jet drive...luckily near an unimproved launch ramp...Mike got a ride to his truck. I suspect all the centerboarders and keel boats will load the keels with Hydrilla. I'm not going to put my boat in (mainly because I need to work on my keel raising hydraulics but also because of the Hydrilla). Stinkpot and I will be fishing in the channel connecting the forebay to the afterbay so if anyone needs help, come look us up. Let me know how the sailing is with the H |
| 9/8/2008 12:04:12 AM | Jason | Do my eyes decive? Is that a Mr. Barr that I see? Almanor sounds good. Who's in? it will be a tough choice for me as Christina and I have purchased a boat and slip on treasure island in the bay area and I have been spending every weekend sailing on the bay but with the baby due within a week or two sailing will have to be kind of spur of the moment. |
| 9/1/2008 8:48:57 AM | Ranger Paul | There is still one ramp open at lake O...but not suitable for most sailboats...although I have been thinking about taking my boat out. When they were building the dam they had an observation parking lot at the spillway (including a Handicap parking sign that they removed only a couple months ago!. Near the bathrooms, you can take a gravel road to the right of the bathrooms down to this observation lot and they have a launch ramp they keep extending using roadbed material. Mike and I now launch for fishing here. Unfortunately you need 4 wheel drive and there is no dock. |
| 8/31/2008 9:00:02 AM | Mark B. | The floating campsites are only accessed if you can launch a boat. Since all the boat ramps are high and dry, this month's camp plans for Oroville lake seem unrealistic... How about Almanor instead? Anyone up for that? |
| 8/27/2008 11:13:44 PM | jason | So what's the scoop on the floating campground? Are we having a big party or what? |
| 8/27/2008 11:12:57 PM | jason | Hello
|
| 8/27/2008 11:12:54 PM | jason | Hello
|
| 8/19/2008 11:30:42 PM | Nacra J | Reno was great, we sailed at Pyramid Lake. IT was so much fun I can't wait to get back there!!! And remember as long as the BSC is in your heart it will never be dead. I think it's time to ramp up the membership and get more people out on the water. |
| 8/16/2008 7:10:54 PM | Karen | Jason- saw you pulling the Nacra coming down the Skyway as I was going up to work. I definitely thought I was going the wrong direction! How was Reno? |
| 8/15/2008 6:55:46 PM | Ranger Paul | Did BSC die? |
| 7/31/2008 11:13:16 AM | Nacra J | So, How was the earlie morning action? I was jealous. It seemed like good wind all day. |
| 7/24/2008 12:04:41 PM | Jason | Well, It looks like I am going to have to miss the event on Saturday. Too many festivities going on Friday night. I'll never be able to make out there early enough. |
| 7/9/2008 11:37:15 PM | pmelcon | The self-tacking high-aspect jib copies the Tornado class. It is a fast combination in conjunction with a spinnaker, otherwise is too slow downwind. I find the self-tacking jib/spinakker configuration to be a much lower crew workload under most conditions. On the Tornado, the main is simply centered downwind to support the mast--the only pulling sail is the spinnaker. Is it more fun? better sailing? I haven't decided. |
| 7/7/2008 1:04:07 PM | Jason | Firecracker Regatta was awesome. We had a great time. Pete and Travis finally got to run the Rhino with the new rig. It has Nice new square top main a taller yet thinner self tacking jib with a new high teck spinnaker. First time on the water and smoked everyone at the lake!!
Paul and I did pretty well though not quite on the podium. Eagle lake regatta this coming weekend. Should be alot of fun, hope to see everyone there. -=Jason=- |
| 7/6/2008 7:57:01 PM | Mark B. | Terry, Just go to http://www.buttesailingclub.info/maps/Thermalito%20Afterbay.aspx
You can sail fine at the A-Bay as long as the graph reads at or above 37 ft. Below that, some boats hit shallow shoals.... Good luck. |
| 7/2/2008 8:33:47 PM | terry | How can i find out the water levels at the afterbay |
| 7/2/2008 7:33:36 PM | Ranger Paul | "now all Saturdays" - not "not all Saturdays". Jeeze, this retirement stuff is hard... |
| 7/2/2008 7:32:13 PM | Ranger Paul | I have been retired for two days now! Saturday is still Saturday. Sunday is still Sunday. The week days are not all Saturdays and are named Monday-Saturday, Tuesday-Saturday, etc. Spend Tuesday-Saturday with my wife - started morning with breakfast in bed reading newspaper, sipping bold coffee and eating chocolate eclairs. Thursday-Saturday Mike and I are going fishing on Lake O for salmon. If the smoke clears and the wind kicks up, I could even go sailing next Monday-Saturday, Tuesday-Saturday, Wednesday-Saturday...... |
| 7/2/2008 12:05:49 PM | pmelcon | never been to the Firecracker Regatta, although all reports are good. have no crew for Eagle but will have the good fortune of being on the Raven. Have a new forestay for the 18-2 and will be switching to a jib from the old Tornado rig. The water plants at the olympic sailing site have become a major threat to the sailing (ignoring the high probability of no wind!). |
| 6/30/2008 12:27:09 PM | Jason | Thanks Paul, Were trying. We leave this Thursday for the Firecracker Regatta at Klamath Lake. There will be fireworks and good times all weekend. If anyone is available you should
think about coming out for some great racing and lots of good people. |
| 6/28/2008 8:02:12 PM | pmelcon | congratulations jason--i have been out on the altered Sea Spray--no crew sfor the 18-2 at the moment. You guys are road warriors and still on the steep side of the learning curve. I look to see you on top soon. |
| 6/23/2008 4:26:36 PM | Jason | Just got back from the Commodors regatta at Huntington Lake. As always the conditions were excelent and there were alot of extremely good sailors there. We took 7th overall which I feel pretty good about, afterall the person that won every race last year took 6th overall. As always good times. Hey John what's up with the 5.2? |
| 6/9/2008 9:47:16 AM | Jason | Go for the Gold Regatta was great. Peavy Took first while we took home a third. Our wind sounds about the same as yours, alot of it but not from the same direction and big puffs. We had the gps going and our speed was in the high teens most of the day with a high of 19.6.
Good Times. |
| 6/8/2008 1:34:17 AM | pmelcon | four boats today--Laser, Hobie16, Prindle 18-2, and athe Piver. Wade came but did not sail. Blustery northerly with major shifts and gusts. Challenging and tiring. Will post photos later. |
| 6/4/2008 4:40:31 PM | pmelcon | back in town and need to get an announcement out. Karen's idea sounds great. Perhaps at the end of June? Need to get an annoucement about this saturday out. Saturday looks like northerlies if you can believe the weather guessers. |
| 6/3/2008 12:19:01 PM | pmelcon | back in town and need to get an announcement out. Karen's idea sounds great. Perhaps at the end of June? Need to get an annoucement about this saturday out. Saturday looks like northerlies if you can believe the weather guessers. |
| 6/1/2008 4:53:41 PM | Karen | Okay so I am not sailng right now but miss seeing all of you. Is anyone up for a June potluck BBQ on land in between sailing adventures? |
| 5/26/2008 8:42:50 PM | Geoff Forner | Hey guys, I am 18 and just started sailing, I picked up a cheap laser and have sailed quite a bit in the last two months, both, on that and my friend Tyler's hobie 16. I am looking for a group to sail with, as well as crewing on someone's cat as i enjoy the speed. On that note, if anyone has a hobie 16 or cheap Nacra etc. laying around I would be interested. I'm working at northstar in tahoe this summer, so not looking for a project boat as I'd rather sail it! snowforner15@aol.com 530-514- 1049 |
| 5/20/2008 9:57:05 AM | Jason | Whiskeytown Regatta this weekend !!!! So much fun. Hope to see everyone there. I have the
details if anyone needs them. |
| 5/13/2008 11:06:10 PM | Bryan Hamilton | "Driftwood" San Juan 24 |
| 5/13/2008 11:03:01 PM | Bryan | try this again. focused on my racing. had a lousy start and caught and passed eight boats.
still ended up with a third place and a second place overall for the spring series. great sailing Day! Great to see you guys out!!! |
| 5/13/2008 11:00:47 PM | Bryan | Sorry, I didnt have the chance to say hi to the gentlemen on the white cat with the red bow. I was really tense I was |
| 5/13/2008 2:37:13 PM | Jason | Yea, We missed you guys. We showed up a little late, in fact we saw you trailering down to the ramp. We saw the CG Aux patrol boat. We waited about 30 min after the LOYC started then tried to catch them. Our new spinny works great. It really is unbelivable how much faster you go when it's up. We were about the fifth boat back to the line. Those LOYC guys can really move!!! |
| 5/12/2008 8:04:22 PM | pmelcon | my crew refused to sail on Saturday morning because th eDurham parade beckoned. I missed out on a fine sail. |
| 5/12/2008 7:40:08 PM | Ranger Paul | Jason: I heard for Stinkpot Mike who was CG Aux patrolling that he had seen you guys. We were at the spillway ramp at 9:45. Did we somehow miss you? We say the LOYC club race as it passed Foreman Island. |
| 5/11/2008 11:13:09 PM | jason | Now that's a bunch of bull, Paul and I were there all day with our friend Tyler on the Hobie 16, As well as a nice older couple with a little boat named Tigger. We decided to race with the LOYC. We did pretty well. Great day of sailing. Got some good pics for the website. Where was Paul Melcon? |
| 5/11/2008 5:37:34 PM | John | I bought a Nacra, so I am selling my Hobie, check it out
http://chico.craigslist.org/boa/676772217.html
Sorry I didn't make it out yesterday. The triathlon at Bidwell marina killed me. The lake is kinda cold. |
| 5/10/2008 9:54:17 PM | Ranger Paul | So, where was everybody today? Once again we were at the spillway and nobody showed except us! |
| 5/9/2008 6:01:34 PM | Jason | Wind for tomorrow looks good, Even into the teens. Also sounds like Tyler will be there with
the Hobie 16. John, How bout you? Maybe on the Nacra? |
| 5/8/2008 9:33:14 PM | Ranger Paul | Gisela and I have been planning on being there...but my truck is in the shop and they can't figure out what is wrong. Sigh... Sure wish I had the bucks for a new tow vehicle. Ye old Bronco is a 1986 (but in good shape and low mileage for a truck that just quits running for no reason). That is, I don't know if we will be there or not. Sure want to get out there tho. |
| 5/8/2008 1:19:30 PM | pmelcon | I will be there and hope that the wind cooperates. if the winds are light, it might be better to head to Foreman Island or under the bridge. the lakes still hovers at 754--it will be a puddle by August. |
| 5/8/2008 1:19:26 PM | pmelcon | I will be there and hope that the wind cooperates. if the winds are light, it might be better to head to Foreman Island or under the bridge. the lakes still hovers at 754--it will be a puddle by August. |
| 5/8/2008 12:16:30 PM | Jason | So, Whose in for this weekend? We will be there. We are going to try out our new spinnaker.
|
| 5/4/2008 11:46:43 PM | pmelcon | I will take people out and can generate flyers. I have no legal expertise. This sounds like a great idea. Black Butte Lake, like the Camellia Cup, was marginal in terms of winds. Friday's southerly was wonderful but the racing wind did not develop. |
| 5/1/2008 5:55:14 PM | Nacra J | Hello everybody, Just a friendly reminder that this weekend at Black butte lake will be the thirty somethingth Chico Classic. If you have a multihull you should come and race and if you don't you should come and hang out. Good times to be had by all. Hope to see you all there!!!!! |
| 4/23/2008 12:20:15 PM | Ranger Paul | 2. Anyone know a free lawyer that could draw up a liability release?
3. Anyone want to make up the flyer?
4. Anyone else like to take people for a free ride?
|
| 4/23/2008 12:18:55 PM | Ranger Paul | Paradise has a 4th of July parade. Stinkpot Mike and I dragged our boats in the parade last year. Mike for the Coast Guard Aux and me for the Butte Sailing Club. This year, I want to promote "take a free ride and see what sailing is all about" hoping to get novices involved in crewing or buying their own boat. We would need flyers about the free ride including who to call plus a liability release that, for sure, exonerate the club (the ride would be offered by a private person) and hopefully somewhat protect individuals.
1. Would anyone else like to drag their boats in the parade?
2. |
| 4/19/2008 8:59:16 PM | pmelcon | cut down the inherited Tornado mast today to fit on the 18-2. With a 1" deeper section it has extra unrated sail area (negligible) and with a thinner wall is lighter to raise. This is a good deal. Hope to check the rig tomorrow and sail as I need to get new shrouds and a forestay. Gusty north wind, but the forecast still says light from the south. The only job where accuracy is not a requirement. |
| 4/17/2008 4:51:13 PM | Nacraj | Anyone going to the Strictly sail Pacific Boat Show this weekend? There is a small group of us going down to check out the big boats. We will take some pics and maybe we can post some of the good ones on the site so people can check it out. |
| 4/16/2008 11:19:16 AM | pmelcon | too many of us were at the Camellia Cup. No wind at all there for two days, but good company and the Raven is a wonderful vessel. We would have had a better sail on Lake Oroville. Monday's wind was two days too late. Jason and Paul took honors at Folsom Lake, keeping moving by the "think system" (if we think we are moving, we will keep moving. |
| 4/12/2008 8:43:56 PM | Ranger Paul | Absolutely no wind to start. We motored clear to Sycamore Cove and beached for lunch...smoked salmon salad sanwiches. Wind came up. We caught the Lake O Yacht Club race right mid race rounding the bouy at Sycamore Cove. Sailed back with them in a nice breeze...6-10 knots. Beautiful weather. Wind lightened around Foreman Island so we bailed and motored back in...this way Gisela would not get over tired. Sailed with Gisela, Stinkpot Mike and me. If there is any wind at all on Lake O, it will be on the other side of the green bridge. Went fishing yesterday with Stinkpot (limiting on salm |
| 4/12/2008 8:36:21 PM | Ranger Paul | Where was everyone today? We were the only show. It was today, Saturday, right? It was at the Lake O spillway, right? Today is April 12, right? Sigh... |
| 4/6/2008 10:28:25 PM | nacraj | I mean two more boats |
| 4/6/2008 10:26:55 PM | nacraj | Today was a fantastic day of sailing. We had the Nacra and two Hobie 16s. We switched it up and had the more experienced people sail with the new folks and did some sailing lessons today. The wind was perfect 10-14 range. By the end of the day those guys had those Hobies flying. Looks like to more boats are in for the Chico Classic. Hooray for Sailing!!! |
| 4/6/2008 5:59:02 PM | pmelcon | Next week I will be crew on the Raven at the Camellia Cup on Folsom lake. Hope to get Mark to bring a boat to the BSC event. Paul |
| 4/6/2008 3:52:24 PM | Ranger Paul | Went fishing Sat on main part of the lake. Several mostly larger sailboats out in about a 6-7 knot wind. Was colder than we expected! Caught our limit of salmon by 2:00...tasty barbee last night. The blue lupin are in bloom all around the lake. Maybe Boomer cove will be covered with lupin like last year even if the water is low. Sure was pretty last year. |
| 4/4/2008 1:48:34 PM | Ranger Paul | John Fitzgerald, whoever he is, will be filling out our crew on my H216 for the April 12 event. |
| 4/3/2008 12:11:14 AM | nacraj | To be more specific we will be out at the Afterbay at 11:00 on Sunday. Hope to see lots of sails, Fair winds -=J=- |
| 4/3/2008 12:07:24 AM | nacraj | Paul and I are going to go out this weekend and help anyone who would like to come out. We are going to have another friend of ours on a Hobie 16 come out for some lessons. John maybe you would like to come as well. The more the merrier. We will meet at the Afterbay around 11:00. Anyone that would like some help learning or a little advice please show up or email me with your questions jpsailing@hotmail.com. That goes for all the club members as well. We could possibly end up with three hobies out there, It would be nice to have a little help. |
| 4/2/2008 11:58:33 PM | nacraj | The Richmond races were awesome, Super fast wet intense racing. Paul and I did as good as we could expect considering the experiense of the competition. We placed 10 out of 40 in the pursuit race on sunday. Mike placed 14th also not bad, but it was fun to finish ahead of him for once. We learned alot about using the current to your advantage as well as how to set the sails for power instead of speed to fight against the 3 foot chop. |
| 4/2/2008 1:12:16 PM | Ranger Paul | I need one (1) crew for the Sat April 12 sail on my Hunter 216. A crew of the female persuation might be nice so Gisela is not overwhelmed with maleness...but this is not necessary. |
| 3/31/2008 12:42:22 PM | pmelcon | out on Saturday on the Raven--almost skunked for wind but great company with Wade and Dave N. Did learn which strings were which, but still managed to pull up on the spinnaker halyard when I needed to let off on the main halyard.Hopefully I am just a slow learner.
Jason--how was the Richmond sail? |
| 3/26/2008 10:48:32 PM | nacraj | It's to bad I won't be around. I would love to go but I guess racing in the bay and partying on big monohulls will have to do. :) One of my other buddies was thinking about going out to the afterbay also. He has a Hobie 16 as well. John, I will give him your info and tell him to give you a call if he is still going out. Later -=J=- |
| 3/26/2008 3:33:25 PM | John | Anyone want to practice for the Chico Classic in May? I am looking to improve my Hobie/racing skills. I will try to get out on the afterbay this sunday. Anyone want to crew? |
| 3/24/2008 6:03:03 PM | nacraj | Ok, Scratch that. I will be in a regatta in the bay this weekend. But sometime in the next few weeks we will set this up. I would love to help some others learn!!! |
| 3/24/2008 5:43:16 PM | nacraj | Karen you can give her my info, jpsailing@hotmail.com. I am currently trying to set up a training day for all that would like to come. Possibly this Sunday. It would probably be at the afterbay. I would like to get John the new Hobie guy and another person that has asked me for some tips as well, He also has a Hobie 16. If your friend from CSUC would like to come that would be Great!!! If we can get everybody committed to going then maybe I could get Mike or someone else to help me give lessons. Thanks for the Shout -=Jason=- |
| 3/24/2008 3:42:17 PM | Karen | Did you Jason/Paul already go out with the newest Hobie gentleman? There is a woman at CSUC with a Hobie and she would like help on sailing it. Who's #/email should I give? Thanks, Karen kcole58@aol.com |
| 3/24/2008 12:35:37 PM | pmelcon | I think we should arrive at 10, sail by eleven, and have a picnici in the wildflowers. What do you folks think. |
| 3/19/2008 1:26:08 PM | nacraj | Yea, I love watching those things, they are incedible. Thanks for the link. |
| 3/18/2008 10:12:15 AM | Karen | You might enjoy watching this!!

| 3/12/2008 8:06:16 PM | Ranger Paul | We missed the Woolie Boolie...boo-hoo... Wife and I both got sick. How was it? Who got the sheep that my wife dearly loves? |
| 3/11/2008 10:57:24 PM | NacraJ | Actually if you would like to go it might be better to go to the afterbay. Just a thought. |
| 3/11/2008 10:56:16 PM | nacraj | Hi John, My name is Jason. I have the Nacra with red bows. I have another friend that has my old Hobie 16 and we are planning on taking a trip out to Black Butte in the next few weeks. He is a beginning sailor as well. He is hoping to learn as much as possible before the Chico Multihull Classic coming up on May 3-4. I will email you with my info.-=J=- |
| 3/11/2008 2:37:09 PM | John | If anyone is looking for crew, I want to learn as much as I can. I was the new guy on the hobie 16 last saturday. I know the basics but want to learn more and experience different boats. chicojohn@gmail.com |
| 3/7/2008 10:54:55 AM | nacraJ | Cool, I don't want to jinx it but it looks like we may have a breeze tomorrow. We are going to use our good jib tomorrow as well. The roller furling is nice but the sail is so bad that when we are racing it's just not worth it. Especially in light wind. |
| 3/7/2008 12:46:08 AM | pmelcon | I sewed a zipper luff on my Prindle 19 jib--it will set much better than the last outing (getting rid of the horrendous luff sag). am ready now for Saturday. |
| 3/6/2008 12:00:25 AM | alo | hello
|
| 3/5/2008 7:24:50 PM | pmelcon | mark is not around this weekend--i am sailing with a nephew. If someone comes up I will give you a call. |
| 3/5/2008 10:48:33 AM | Ranger Paul | I need crew. pmelcon - can Mark crew for me? Can someone else crew for me? |
| 3/5/2008 8:51:36 AM | Bryan | I wish I could join you guys on your race but, LOYC is having there 40th anniversary. You will probably see us out on the Lake at 3:00 pm. There will be a boat parade decorated boats. Bryan |
| 3/4/2008 10:28:18 PM | NacraJ | So what's the count? Who's in this weekend? Should be a great race. Peavy is going to have a heavier crew with him, So nows the time to strike. |
| 3/4/2008 10:28:15 PM | NacraJ | So what's the count? Who's in this weekend? Should be a great race. Peavy is going to have a heavier crew with him, So nows the time to strike. |

| 3/4/2008 10:52:18 AM | pmelcon | current wind projection is light from the south on Saturday, but 10 knots on Sunday. Let's hope that the low moves in a day early! |
| 2/29/2008 5:12:31 PM | nacraJ | Oh yea, Cool |
| 2/22/2008 11:27:45 PM | nacraj | Anyone sailing this weekend? |
| 2/21/2008 9:51:50 AM | pmelcon | pictures are finally posted! |
| 2/14/2008 7:19:13 AM | Sailfish | Have any pics yet? |
| 2/14/2008 3:40:45 AM | pmelcon | Both accounts should have worked. I sent an email about an FTP solution. Still, I get photos all of the time and do not run up against account limitations. Am going to Illinois and will not be sailing on the frozen tundra! |
| 2/13/2008 12:31:08 PM | Nacraj | Paul I sent the pics from the other day to your gmail account. Did you receive them ok? |
| 2/12/2008 3:11:13 AM | pmelcon | well, the university often snags legitimate mail. can you try pmelcon@gmail.com? google is a bit smarter on the technology end. thanks. if this does not work i will give you an ftp connection. |
| 2/12/2008 1:14:04 AM | NacraP | Hey Paul, for some reason postmaster is rejecting that email address so I am unable to send pics from Hotmail. If you have another email I can give it a shot. |
| 2/11/2008 9:49:30 PM | Bryan | Yes thanks again BSC. It was alot of fun! Lets do it again! |
| 2/11/2008 9:13:20 PM | Alimar II | Thanks BSC for inviting LOYC members to join the fun on Saturday. Although we had to crawl out a start, a light breeze allowed us to fly the spinnaker to "SS Relief" for a respectable time at the first mark. Then, when the wind blew steadily, it was a fun run to the finish! Thanks again and please join us as well - Sent Paul our 2008 LOYC Event Calendar today. |
| 2/11/2008 12:47:33 PM | NacraJ | Great sail on Sat. everybody. We had a great time. It was fun to have the other clubs out with us. We should deffinately let the other clubs know when we are going to be out there. |
| 2/10/2008 9:55:01 PM | Ranger Paul | pmelcon: Sorry I didn't make it. When I got to cleaning off the snow/ice, I found 3" of ice in the bottom of the cockpit. Took me till 11:00 to get the ice chipped out and boat dried off. Drat! Tell Mark I tried my best. |
| 2/9/2008 8:58:03 PM | pmelcon | pmelcon@csuchico.edu is a great place to send me an email. |
| 2/9/2008 9:02:21 AM | pmelcon | Mark is sailing with Paul on the Hunter. I am ready and awake due to my early-rising granddaughter. |
| 2/8/2008 7:49:46 PM | NacraJ | Paul and I are still in. We will try not to be late this time. I just got off the phone with Peavy and he said that they should be there as well. Are we going to see any Thistle action? Any word from the Barr clan? I was hoping to continue the enlightening conversation about the color of Pink Slip. |
| 2/8/2008 7:06:43 PM | pmelcon | I sam sailing with Karen--it never occurred to me that shoveling snow off a sailboat would be necessary. thanks for the offer. Paul |
| 2/8/2008 6:58:24 PM | Ranger Paul | So, Paul M, want to go out on my Hunter tomorrow? I got the green light from Gisela. I think she wants to keep me from getting underfoot. I looked at my boat and the snow on it is almost melted. We can get it ready to roll in 20 minutes or so. |
| 2/8/2008 6:21:24 PM | pmelcon | we are all evious of the fishing! i dream of flying fish that land in my boat. |
| 2/8/2008 5:20:24 PM | Ranger Paul | Went salmon fishing with Stinkpot Mike today. We were off the lake with our limit of small salmon by 1:00. I am smoking them now. Awhile back I made smoked salmon salad just as if I were making tuna salad and it was to die for! One of the best things that has ever crossed my lips. Stinkpot agrees. |
| 2/8/2008 5:18:17 PM | Ranger Paul | 872-2258 |
| 2/8/2008 5:17:52 PM | Ranger Paul | I don't think I'll be out. Gisela can't take the cold and my boat still has 8" or so of snow covering it. I'm thinking about it though. PaulM- maybe if you came up to Paradise and helped me get the silly snow off it we could take it out??? |
| 2/7/2008 8:48:19 PM | pmelcon | Anyone need a crew? |
| 2/7/2008 6:42:41 PM | nacraj | Cool, You going to bring the hunter out? |
| 2/7/2008 3:15:31 PM | Ranger Paul | Spillway ramp is open also. One lane. |
| 2/7/2008 8:27:02 AM | Bryan | Just the kind of weather I like! |
| 2/6/2008 11:07:15 PM | nacraj | I Promise no spinnaker shananagans this time. |
| 2/6/2008 11:02:42 PM | nacraj | You know we will be there. I am anxiuos to get out there this weekend. Are we still going to brave the ramp at Bidwell. I think that is the only one that is open. Is that right? So what's the scoop, Who's in? |
| 2/6/2008 9:53:24 PM | pmelcon | winds are predicted to be light to very light but i will go anyhow--with a boat this time. |
| 2/6/2008 8:39:33 AM | Sailfish | Is the race on for Saturday still? Sailfish (Bryan H.) |
| 2/3/2008 5:18:03 PM | pmelcon | Interesting weather site that needs to tap into local weather stations the way that the Weather Underground does. The display and concept is excellent. |
| 2/2/2008 11:47:08 PM | Mark B. | For a graph of Oroville Lake's wind levels, go to this site, double click on lake Orovill and double clike on the graph that comes up in the right margin. Pretty cool!

| 2/2/2008 6:55:03 PM | pmelcon | new weather information and maps for club sites--let me know if there are any problems. |
| 2/2/2008 3:28:24 PM | Ranger Paul | Duh! ..."now" high enough, not "not" high enough. |
| 2/2/2008 3:27:36 PM | Ranger Paul | Lake O water is not high enough to launch from Bidwell and the Spillway. Single lane only as of now. Limited to no dock space. |
| 1/30/2008 2:03:05 PM | Bryan | Thats the name of my boat LOL! |
| 1/30/2008 10:16:16 AM | pmelcon | Driftwood? This is always a hazard on Oroville in the spring. |
| 1/30/2008 9:23:23 AM | Bryan | I passed on the word to Commodore Scott Gates of the LOYC that we are invited. Im going to try and get "Driftwood" out there. Hopefully its not raining next week. Look forward to it! |
| 1/29/2008 11:01:24 PM | pmelcon | BSC is for all sailors and all boats. We will have a keelboat class and an appropriate award. Let's hope for 8-12 with clear skies. |
| 1/29/2008 9:02:45 PM | nacraj | Absolutley, I would love to see some keel boats out there. C'mon Bryan lets make it happen. Lets cover the lake with sails!!!!! |
| 1/29/2008 3:41:15 PM | Karen | BSC and CYC are sailing together on 2/9 BSC Day. How about OYC? Sounds great to me.
I believe the only requirement should be love of water, wind, sails. What do you think? |
| 1/28/2008 11:10:41 PM | Nacraj | I think I will be restricted to sailing on sunday only this weekend. Anyone esle? If people are sailing on Saturday I might be able to switch up my plans. |
| 1/28/2008 10:27:56 PM | pmelcon | hmm--looks like the Hamiltons did well in the big boat fleet last year. congratulations. does the lake oroville yacht club extend invitations to dinghy sailors or is a the rationality demonstrated by moving to larger craft required? |
| 1/26/2008 9:45:17 PM | bryan | check out www.loyc.org for "Driftwood" race results. |
| 1/26/2008 9:43:53 PM | bryan | wasa up |
| 1/24/2008 9:39:23 PM | pmelcon | The ShoutBox has a new format that includes day, date, and time. Unfortunately, the server is in Texas and the time in Central Time! Will fix this someday. Lost a few posts but I like having the day included. |
