An August date, Monday the 30th has been picked! Let's meet at the Thermalito Forebay

Sailing and kayaking on the Thermalito Forebay with the Chico Yacht Club's and the Paddleheads.
Richmond Yacht Club on 18-19 September for catamarans and 25-26 September for all dinghies and multihulls.

September is a sane month for dinghies on San Francisco Bay. The Richmond Yacht Club provides first-class events with fabulous race organization and committee boats. This is a great opportunity to sail on some bigger water with the competitive groups from the Bay Area.
View the Lake Oroville level plot from January 1, 2009 to today

All ramps are open. The current elevation is 810 feet (August 17), only 90 feet below the top and still providing great sailing.

Let's sail on Monday August 30th at the Thermalito Forebay

Looks like Monday evening on August 30th might be a good time to gather at the Forebay. The Chico Yacht Club (the group sails "big boats" on the bay and trailerable 20-25 foot monohull at lakes and on Puget Sound) has organized a meeting of three clubs at the end of the month. Several BSC boats are going. I plan to arrive early and will bring the Prindle 18-2 and a kayak.  CYC is bringing their dinghies.  Should be fun.

The following is the CYC announcement.

Chico Yacht Club is hosting a gathering for members at the Thermalito Forebay on Monday, August 30th for fun in the sun and a potluck BBQ. Two other water-loving groups, the Paddleheads and Butte Sailing Club, have been asked to join the CYC folks. This is a great way to meet and socialize with other water enthusiasts.

The event will start with sailing and kayaking at noon. BBQs will be lit shortly after 5pm. Bring your boats, kayaks, and other floating toys.  After entering the Forebay, bear to the left and we will meet at the boat ramp. Be certain to bring whatever you want to BBQ, a potluck dish to share, and your own beverages and utensils. Finally, don’t forget there is a parking fee and launching fee for use of the Forebay.

Welcome to the Butte Sailing Club website. We're a low-key group of sailors. We emphasize recreational sailing and club-level racing. Our boats are trailerable and range in size from ten to twenty-four feet. We emphasize that sailing should be fun. Our focus is on sailing well while helping one another. Water safety is our club's first priority.

In short, the Butte Sailing Club is a place to learn about sailing, engage in spirited racing, and enjoy one another's company both on and off the water. Consider joining us at any of our events. There is a minimal membership fee ($10 per year). Guests boats and crew are welcome at any event without charge. We encourage prospective members with sailboats of all types, as well as those who may be just looking at this terrific way to spend time.

Regardless of where you are, feel free to contact this site for help in rigging or restoring your sailboat. We have been able to help many residents of Northern California get their boats in the water.

Club Rules

Rule #1: Any day on the water is better than a day ashore.
Rule #2: The best boat is the one with you in it.

5/12/2010 10:15:56 PMpmelconWhiskeytown Sailing Club is having their annual two-day regatta in Redding (Lake Whiskeytown) on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Their facility is excellent and sailing on shifting lake winds can be a challenge. Look for a link on the events page.
5/12/2010 1:01:48 AMpaulChico Yacht Club has their floating campground on Lake Oroville this weekend. Wade and the Raven hope to be on the lake one day--there should be room for a few more boats as the level is at 925 feet. Winds are problematic at this point but the air temp will be in the 80s. I hope to be there on Saturday.
4/12/2010 6:54:54 PMPaulThe next regatta is the MHRA Chico Classic on May 1-2. Although the regatta is for multihulls, there is lots of room on the lake and all sailors are welcome.
