Commodore Barr and his oldest son, Chris practiced capsize
recovery using their newly rigged righting pole.
The boat came up easily from capsize with
only Mark pulling on the pole. What an improvement over the old righting
rope method! |

We sailed in to take a break and pick up some new crew.
Paul Melcon and Karen Cole were zooming on Paul's Prindle 18-2. We
had some great boat-on-boat speed tuning.
Jason Smith and his crew Paul had Jason's recently aquired Hobie 16
out. They were having a blast.

The Barr's Prindle in the foreground with 3 other boats in the background.
The wind was about 6 - 12 mph...
Sailing with Mark were (L. to R) Chris, Kevin and Grant.

Paul Ritchie must have been pleased when the two Hobie 16 catamarans
could barely catch him going upwind.
There was a lot of friendly banter between boats whenever we crossed
tacks. You can't beat sailing with friends.
Sailing a beach cat off a beach is great, but we had to be carefull
with our rudders and boards to avoid grounding.

We always sailed into the beach with our boards and leeward rudder
up.
The boys practiced "man overboard" recovery until we were
all pretty worn out.
We finally brought the boats in and derigged as the sun sank low in
the sky. It was time for a Mexican Food dinner in Orland.
Several of us pulled into the nearly vacant parking lot at El Korita
Restaurant.
We took this group shot before going in to eat. It had been a fun day
in the sun. |
One more group shot. We were wind blown and a little damp in places,
but we were happy.

Paul Ritchie and his first time crew, Binit.
The decor was classic, the food, delicious! |
I caught Cherril Melcon asking Kelly how big the Commodore's Ego is...
Kelly and I need to talk.
