Impromptu Full Moon Sail

from August 7th, 2006

When we first arrived at Oroville Lake at 7:30, this was our view of the lake.

Mike Maddox volunteered to serve as safety boat. As you can see, he had power to spare!

Mike and his wife, Hana Laura are Coast Guard Reserve. They always arrive fully equipped.

Mike and Hana Laura's boat, White Knight.

This view shows the full moon already rising while we were still 30 minutes from launching. The timing was perfect.

This shot shows (L to R) Tyson Schaffer, Richard Silvera and Kelly Barr

Tyson and Richard sailed Richard's Prindle 18-2 catamaran with home-made red and green bow lights.

Mike Peavy and Richard are rigging Mike's Nacra 5.8 catamaran.

Mark and Kelly with sons Chris and Grant went out on "Pink Slip"... a Thistle.

White Knight on station as we sailed out of the launch ramp cove. The moon was spectacular.

Kelly, Grant and Chris were all blinded by my flash.

Mike was sailing with his friend, Elena.

The Nacra 5.8 has plenty of room on the trampoline for a relaxing night sail.

Here, the Prindle glided by our Thistle like we were standing still. It doesn't seem quite fair that they are that fast.

This is our GPS track for the nights sail. We did go just past the bridge and sailed cautiously under the middle span. There was plenty of room.
